Chard Farm vineyard was established in 1986 on a former dairy farm and orchard located on dramatic Gibbston Valley site between the edge of the Kawarau Gorge and the Remarkables Mountain Range
This proposed winery building, designed in 1990 , is located on the edge of the vineyard and was planned to accommodate both the wine making operations and tasting and sales combined with a small restaurant to cater for visiting customers and viticultural tourists
The simple rectilinear form of the double height plaster clad winery factory links to the lower level tasting/sales/restaurant building which are tied together by the rustic Oamaru Stone cladding and the vine draped pergola walkway and north facing dining terrace
