Mangawhai, Auckland, 2016
This design for a new wine sales and workshop building is set amongst the vines of an existing vineyard at Mangawhai, north of Auckland
The angular mono-pitched form of the building responds to its north facing sloping site and with its corrugated zincalume cladding evokes ideas of both simple farm sheds and stealth bombers
The design is based on a split level plan with a high ceiling workshop at the upper south side separated from a flexible open plan sales space on the lower sunny norther side. The flexibility of the design allows for the open plan space to operate initially as a simple 1-2 bedroom studio, until a new larger permanent house is built on another part of the vineyard
